@Jason
When I first read this comment I had no idea what you were talking about. But after our post-mortem conversation at the beginning of week 9 I now realize you clued in to the asking for help solution. I'm glad someone got the hint.

@Jeff
We only had two ranged attackers this week which made things tougher. The auras decimated our party when the rest of us moved in to fight. Our only defender was so hurt he couldn't afford to mark. Drawing attacks would have only killed him faster.

@Joe
I hope my DM is as liberal with the interpretation as yours. But in the end if you play all 12 encounters you should end up with well over 50 renown points, so it most likely won't matter either way.

@Kenneth McNay
Your scaling of the encounter sounds about right. Sounds like your group was just unlucky (as was mine).

@Necron
Or in 8 easy encounters, as the case may be. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found a little bit of humour in the TPK.

@Dungeon Newbie
Remember that with D&D Encounters everyone comes to the table having created their PC in a vacuum. No one knows what anyone else has created. It's possible for 6 Fighters to show up. You take what you can get and try to defeat the encounter.

@Scott Cheuvront
Had your Avenger not dropped that monster early, you party might have succumb to the aura and been killed like the party's at my FLGS. Sometimes a good roll or a power used at just the right time makes all the difference.

@Tom Davids
Alas, ours did not.

@Chris Fuchs
Wow, no deaths at all after 8 or 9 weeks. You must have a) a balanced party, b) experienced players, c) really hot dice. In either case, good work on your continued survival.

I'm a little late to the party, but the groups I'm playing with has not had a single death. I don't even think we have come close. A few dropped below 0, but no one has died.

My group for week 8 had a pretty interesting composition. We had 3 leaders (Warlord/seeker (me), Bard, Shaman) 3 strikers (Avenger, monk, ranger) and 1 controller (wizard). I charged in and basically took point taking over 60 damage the encounter. No one in our party went down and thanks to the Avenger one shot killing the black fog dude, he wasn't much of a problem. I guess the difficulty depends on the party composition and the collection of powers used by each individual person and the fact that you have to work together as a team

How did you get 2 TPKs?! I mean, who was foolish enough to build a second cleric? Well, too bad and good luck for your next encounter!

i also delivered a TPK to the group that i was DMing. it was a team of three and I waffled over reducing the number of monsters but instead decided to weaken a few--removed regeneration.

Re: the Surviving 8 encounters bennie ... almost everyone agrees that this does not have to be contiguous. So if you survive 8 of 9 encounters, you should still get it.

Did your DM's add monsters to the fight? My party of 5 had little problem with week 8, the only person to go down was me, the leader, and that was only for one round as I hadn't spent my second wind yet, so three people have now gotten revive a fallen comrade, two because of me going down. I think I play everything a little too defenderish, yes even Wizard, though I am a Runepriest in Encounters.

Our Warden and Seeker kept the mobs all pretty well locked down the whole fight, the Seeker creating a 5x5 of rough terrain that gave combat advantage and the Warden sitting in the middle of the fight marking everything every round. The invoker also handed out dazes and radiant damage liberally.

Actually thinking about it, your group has seemed to have had a lot more difficulty than ours the whole time, and I know that our DM has been upping the challenge level a good bit, making Standards into Minors and such. I think before this fight no one except the Warden has used more than one surge a fight.

The paladin in our group asked for divine guidance and got the response "You're asking the wrong person for help." He tried to think about it and was told there was another creature in the area that wasn't participating.

Finally the assassin figured it out and the fight suddenly turned around and became much easier.

Most of the party was bloodied by then and a moment later half of them hit the dirt, but I was rolling 1s for damage most of the night so the threats ended up being minimal.
