Great article on a subject that I'm very interested in. My two young boys are eager to start playing and I eagerly await the day when we can start rolling up characters. Right now, we sort of improvise dungeon crawls with plastic minis, action figures, and some very simplified dice mechanics.

I enjoy reading camp articles, so please keep them coming.

Although not necessarily kids (we have had a few 11 -13 year olds over the years), our group thrives on bringing newbies in, so as far as laying ground rules, I still do that with my group of adults. I generally do not have many issues, but speak one at a time, and ask before blasting a friend with AOE are good ones. The group does not find that last rule silly, they probably are much more willing to take a blast for the team than younger kids, but most people like to give permission before a teammate hits their character.

I also have to say kudos and extra XP to the kid who wanted to play a horse, especially in the midst of a dragon, werewolf and owlbear!

When you DM for the older kids, do you hold them to the rules or do you allow them leeway as well, and what age do you find first capable to really play the game as is?
