As players and DMs we love our tools and toys. The things that make playing Dungeon’s & Dragons even more enjoyable. Assembled here is a list of resources that are available on the web that I’ve found of use during my time playing D&D. I won’t pretend that this is a complete list, indeed in some cases I’m directing you to even more lists of great D&D resources.
I hope you enjoy and feel free to point out other items that might be of interest to others.
- Wizards of the Coast – The Dragon’s mouth if you will. Visit here for all the official news, along with the DDI suite of tools.
- Dungeon’s Master – We have a skill challenge page full of sample challenges for DMs to run and skill aides to give PCs that extra edge. We also have series on Campaign Design for those DMs who want to tackle creating their own world.
- Dungeonmastering – Yax has created a whole suite of tools that are available to use. Highly recommended.
- Critical Hits – A listing of all the skill challenges that they are aware of, along with guide to 4e accessories.
- Mad Brew Labs – You’ll find a very comprehensive listing of sites that offer D&D tools and resources.
- Playwright – Here you’ll find tool that can be used to create custom power cards, classes and races. An earlier version of this tool was used to create our Necromancer powers.
- RPTools – Mapping, initiative and dice rolling. A suite of software powered by Java to make gaming and map creation easier. The main tool here is MapTools which the Dungeon’s Master team have been using faithfully for the past 3 or 4 years.
- Cartographers Guild – If you’ve ever want to create your own maps for your gaming sessions this is the place to go for tutorials.
- Obsidian Portal – Create and maintain a site dedicated to your current campaign. Obsidian Portal assists DMs in telling the story, giving your players a location to visit for campaign updates.
- Fantasy Grounds – Another interactive virtual table top.
- Heroforge – 4e Excel character sheets, for those who don’t have a DDI subscription.
- ENWorld – The forums at ENWorld are a great source of information or asking the question you haven’t found an answer for in other places.
- RPG Bloggers Network – Last, but far from least are the many blogs that make up the RPG Bloggers Network. Make it part of your daily reading.

I'll take this opportunity to shamelessly plug my site, Chaotic Shiny. It's full of generators for writers and gamers to make everything from taverns to fully statted out (N)PCs to pantheons to entire medieval cities (well, that one's in progress).
Shamelessly plugging myself here. I have a truckload of stuff.
.-= Wyatt´s last blog ..Spirits of Eden Combat Styles =-.
@ Swordgleam & Wyatt
Plug away! I make no claims that this list is the authorative place to find D&D resources. The more everyone shares, the better it is for all!
@Wimwick: Thanks! Now that I think about it, there's a couple of other generator/tool sites that people might find useful:
Asmor's tools: http://www.asmor.com/scripts.php
SeventhSanctum generators: http://seventhsanctum.com
Another tool is Masterplan, it's getting quite a following.
Thanks for the list!
Anyone know of a good site for players looking for DMs/groups to join?
@ Flink
I'd recommend trying ENWorld and seeing if they have a section dedicated to this. I also believe that the RPTools forums may have a section in their forums if you are looking to play with a group online over that medium.
@ Wimwick
Thanks for the links, will give them a try.
