Design a Holiday Dungeon Contest

It’s that time of year when elves and gnomes come out from hiding and begin mingling with the common people. This active participation in our world keeps them safe during the other 11 months of the year. As these creatures of the fey mingle with us common folk, we thought we would invite you to design a dungeon centered on this joyous time of year.

The Dungeon’s Master team presents the Design a Holiday Dungeon contest.

We want to see what you can do with fat men in red suits, elves, gnomes, goblins, trolls and anything else that might fit in with the holiday theme. After all, the milk and cookies are really a greed trap… aren’t they?

Contest Details

Contest Opens: Monday, November 23, 2009
Contest Closes: Sunday, December 20, 2009

Theme: Your entry must have a holiday theme, beyond that we encourage you to be as creative as you like.

Length of Submission: Your entire submission must fit on one 8 x 11 page. The submission can be handwritten or typed as long as it’s legible and it fits on one page. While the contest is billed as Design a Holiday Dungeon, a creative single encounter set somewhere other than a dungeon is also acceptable and has an equal shot at winning.

Number of Submissions: Each participant may only submit one entry.

Maps: While not required, entries with maps will likely have a better chance of winning prizes.

Content: Any official Wizards of the Coast content is allowed. Please respect the GSL and do not put full stat blocks in your entry or reference page numbers, just list the monster used. No custom monsters created with the monster builder will be accepted. Only entries based on 4e D&D will be accepted. Ensure that the encounter level of your submission is included.

Submitting:Entries must be submitted by email to both Ameron and Wimwick.

  • To: ameron@dungeonsmaster.com; wimwick@dungeonsmaster.com
  • Subject: <your name> Holiday Dungeon Contest
  • Attachment Name: <your name> Holiday Dungeon Contest (Word or PDF files preferred)

Judging: Ameron and Wimwick from Dungeon’s Master will judge all entries and determine the winner. We will announce the winner the week of December 28, 2009, on Dungeon’s Master. The winner also will be notified directly by email. The winning entry must stick to the holiday theme and will be humorous, challenging and creative.

Prizes: The winner can select one of the following Wizards of the Coast releases as the grand prize.

E-book: Dungeon’s Master will collect all submissions and reprint them as an E-book in early 2010. This E-book will have a permanent home in our Modules section.

Terms: By entering the contest you consent to allow Dungeon’s Master to publish your entry for public viewing and releases it under Creative Common Share-alike license. If you provide a URL for a personal website or blog, Dungeon’s Master will link the entry back to you. You also consent to allow Dungeon’s Master to publish your entry in E-book format for free download. Dungeon’s Master will credit your entry appropriately. In order to claim your prize you must provide your name, mailing address and phone number. Underdark and Martial Power 2 will not be released until January and February 2010, respectively. If you select one of these prizes, Dungeon’s Master will arrange to have it shipped to you after the item is released.

Good luck to all contestants.

Is this only for Christmas, or can we theme our adventure on one of the other winter holidays instead? I love me some Hannukah goblins. (Not that I’m going to accuse you of being a bigot if you’d rather have a more tightly themed ebook to release.)

On an unrelated note, is there any way to get ahold of you guys besides comments? You don’t seem to have a Contact page anywhere that I can find.

@Swordgleam
Anything that’s in the holiday spirit is acceptable. So bring on the Hannukah goblins, my friend!

All of our contact info is on the About page (click on the tab at the top of the page). If you have questions or comments that you’d rather send us by email, that’s fine.
