This week Wizards of the Coast released their first complete preview class from the forthcoming PHB3 through DDI and the Character Builder – The Psion. This is the first of many new classes relying on the new psionic power source, a useless and altogether unnecessary addition to 4e D&D. To put it bluntly: psionics suck.
If you want to survive any D&D adventure you need to plan ahead. The better your advanced planning the more likely your chances of survival, and in the case of the Ultimate Dungeon Delve, the better your chance of victory. At this year’s GenCon they are running the next Ultimate Dungeon Delve: Fall of the Tower at Windrock. I’m signed up to play and I’m looking for an adventuring company.
As a DM, I often draw inspiration for my D&D games from the most unexpected places. This weekend I saw the movie The Hangover and afterwards I realized that the way the story is structured would work beautifully as a D&D game. For those readers who haven’t seen the movie, I won’t present anything in this article that will ruin it for you. The high points that I’m going to cover are all revealed in the trailer.
The Eberron campaign setting comes with all the intrigue of a post war setting and all the mistrust of a setting still stuck in a cold war. During such difficult times the PCs may find themselves involved in tense negotiations where a poor resolution could result in renewed hostilities.
Poll Results
Ever since we launched Dungeon’s Master we’ve included a poll question on the right side of the page. (If you haven’t answered this week’s question, now would be a good time!) The number of respondents for each poll continues to grow along with the number of readers who visit our site regularly. Now that we’re a few months in and we’ve had the opportunity to ask a variety of questions of our readers, we decided to take a look at the results of a few polls.
Have Battlerager Fighters Been Fixed?
Power gamers worldwide wept after reading the latest updates from Wizards of the Coast. The Battlerager Fighter is severely weakened and the followers of Tempus have had their legs cut out from under them. Generally I don’t like to just rehash an article posted by Wizards, but I think this one requires some attention and discussion.
A Lyrander airship travelling from Stormreach to Sharn is blown off course and crashes on an uncharted island in the Thunder Sea. The ship is damaged beyond repair and her captain is killed in the crash. The passengers, all strangers, must work together to survive. It dosen’t take long for the surviving passengers to learn two important things: 1) the island itself seems to be alive, teeming with magic; and 2) they are not alone.
Imagine that the popular ABC television show Lost takes place in the Dungeons & Dragons world of Eberron. How might the established canon of the show remain intact while adapting it for 4e D&D? Below is the D&D re-imagining of three of the main characters from the show.
From Where Do You Hail?
Today is Canada Day. While the Dungeon’s Master team is enjoying our nation’s birthday we wonder, where are you from?
Month in Review: June 2009
For those counting, it’s been five months since we launched and we’re still going strong. We continue to get comments form new readers almost every day. The Dungeon’s Master team wants to thank all of our readers for continuing to visit regularly, helping the site grow and improve.
Tomorrow is a holiday in Canada and the Dungeon’s Master team is taking the day off to celebrate our country’s birthday. We have a special Canada Day post in store for tomorrow so we’re giving you the month in review for June one day early. For those of you who might have missed some of the articles we published in June, this is your chance to get caught up. Here are the highlights from June.
Skill Matrix Update
We’ve updated the skill matrixes by class and race. The existing skill aides for players and DMs now include materials presented in the Eberron Player’s Guide.
- The player’s aide has three new races: Changeling, Kalashtar and Warforged.
- The DM’s aide has the skills breakdown for the Artificer.
We’ve also added a new monster matrix for players and DMs. This is similar to the player’s aide except that it collects the monstrous PC race options presented in the Monster Manual and the Monster Manual 2. Those monsters later printed in other sourcebooks have been included in the player’s aide only.
